So on the second day of Chinese New Year we all made our my to the ‘Dai Ka Cheah’ (eldest sister) aka my mother’s house for dinner… She usually cooks the second day or the third so that I can come home to eat with everybody.:-) The spread is always the same over the years… one of everybody’s favorite dish from her. So we are NOT complaining!! Some of this dishes we only get to eat once a year.

This year we even have a ‘new’ family member joining us for dinner. Although she is not really ‘officially’ one of us yet but legally she is… LOL! :-D Just like Greg, my brother wasn’t able to join us this year for CNY because he had to stay back in Singapore for work.. :-( But Greg surprise us by turning up later that night after his flight and managed to be the banker for the night ;-)

On the first day of CNY, the first stop is of course to my in-law’s for tea ceremony. A tradition that has been going on for Greg’s side of the family, and so, every year on the first day of CNY, that’s where we’ll be. This year, Caitlyn was very serious and served tea in a proper manner. I guess now that she understands more and she is always ‘on’ for things like that anyway… And also she received all her ang pows and said all her thank yous graciously, unlike last year where she rejected all other ang pows after receiving one with a picture of the Disney Princesses on it. :-|

Then after that the next stop was as usual to Greg’s aunt’s house in SS2 where we again ate.. She makes the best achar and ‘babi hong’ (also another one of Greg’s family traditional dish and apparently the recipe is a secret). And had her soup which she has set over the charcoal stove over night.

And the last stop of the day will always be my Po-Po’s also in SS2. She always celebrates her birthday on the first day of CNY. This year is the first year she celebrated her birthday without my grandpa by her side. I know she misses him and he’ll always buy her red roses on her birthday and she kept talking about it this year…

And later that day we all went out for dinner with all my aunt’s and my cousins, my po-po’s treat!

Phew!! What a day!! But it was fun.. Did all the obligatory traditions and also got to spend time with my family, which made it great. :-) Only person I miss during this CNY is my brother, didn’t get any leave from work, so had to work throughout CNY.

2011 Rabbit

One more day left in the year of the Tiger… I must say that I’m quite glad. It’s been a tough year for me and I would say for Greg as well… Although we managed to buy and move into our new home and the arrival of our little tigress Emme, it hasn’t been easy. So many things has happened. We’ve lost so many loved ones this year. Our maid of 4 years left and the new one ran away… It has really been a very challenging year for us as a family. Many times I’ve just really thought to myself… “Hello!! You kiddin’ me right? This is not really happening to me right?”

Well, I’m really, really hoping that the year of the cute little wabbit will be easier on me and finally give me some rest and go easy on me…

Just like Christmas… I didn’t bake up a storm of cookies. I would usually make like 5 or 6 varieties but this year I only have 2. And even that was not entirely my labour of love. My aunt and Mom came over and I kinda ‘help’ them make it and in return I have some cookies so I won’t look too bad.. :-| But this year I finally get to hang those cute little red lanterns outside my main entrance because we live in a house :-D Also.. I’m really happy I get to join my family for reunion dinner because Greg is working through eve till the second day of CNY, we already had our reunion dinner with the Tan side of the family last Sunday. ;-) So I get to have 2 reunion dinners! Yeay!!

So I really don’t think I’ll be able to get back here to wish everyone a Gong Hei Fatt Choy and wishing everyone Health, Love and a Abundant year ahead!! May all that you wish for come true and all that you worked for prosper and multiply!!
