As I promised, I’ll blog about our visit to Fernando’s. Why does this restaurant deserves a spot in my blog? Well…for starters, it took us two visits to Macao in order to have a meal there. If you have read my previous blog, you’ll know why. This place is really amazing. It’s full all the time, from the time they open till closing not a single table is empty. At any time you are there there’s a waiting list! No joke! This is told to me by Ah Yee (Greg’s aunt) and Uncle Jim, and I’m sure they know… they live just down the road. People travel from Hong Kong and neighboring Zuhai,China to dine here. When I arrived at Macao on our second visit I told Ah Yee and Uncle Jim that this time round I MUST eat at Fernando’s or I’ll be really upset…I will, even if I had to cue for hours. I was prepared to go there half an hour before they open. After all we are just an hop, skip and jump away!Greg was afraid that it will not live up to our expectations because we have waited so long for it and everyone talks about it. It must be over rated. That’s before we had a taste of what this place have to offer….Well.. we (Greg, Caitlyn and I) took a slow walk to the restaurant while Ah Yee and Uncle Jim drove to the pier to pick Phil up, he came over from Hong Kong to join us! See.. I told you people travel here for a meal!! Hahaha! Actually Phil just came over to see us… when we arrived there, there was already 8 names ahead of us and the place was packed to the brim. But the waiting area was lovely, we sat under huge trees and Caitlyn loved it there. As we were there for lunch we caught some sun and Caitlyn was chirping away with the birdies while we fed her.Don’t be deceived by it’s humble facade from the outside. There’s a open air waiting area and a large dining area inside. Greg said that it’s the first time he has been to a place where the waiting are is as big as the dining area..which is true. On the way in we passed the kitchen and what we saw was 3 roasted piglet on the kitchen table waiting to be served… We love this place already!!

What did we have…

Roasted Piggie *of course*

Grilled Chicken in a bed of fries and some olives **very YUMMY and I’m still wondering how do they get it so juicy moozy..**

Salad **very sweet tomatoes and the dressing is just right**

Grilled Fish **this is really, really YUMMY! YUMMY! A must try!!**

Prawns cooked in some tomato based sauce
And this place bakes their own bread, you must give any restaurant that bakes their own bread.I’m sorry I’m not familiar with all the Portuguese names of the dishes and their menu is in Portuguese but thank goodness they do have a picture menu. So you can have a looky looky.

So, was it worth the wait? YES! YES! YES! And yes… it definitely did live up to my expectation and worth the wait. Never seen my husband ate so much before!

So how do you get to this place? It’s located on the Coloane Island, (it’s the last one) on Hac Sa ( black sand) beach. You really can’t get lost, it’s an island. If anything at all just ask anyone there…they will know, it’s famous. Another thing to try while you are in Coloane is the infamous Portuguese egg-tart. The most famous one and supposedly the original one is right here on Coloane it’s called Lord’s Stowe.

I know…I know.. It’s been awhile. I’m so sorry. I know some of you have been checking in often hoping I’ve posted something coz I’ve been getting calls to check if I’m ok. Thank you anyway,I didn’t realize that I had fans!! Hehehehe!!! *shiok sendiri* It’s just that we at the Tan household have been really busy and going places!! We (Greg, Caitlyn and moi) just came back from our holiday in Macao. Yes, you read it right, Just the three of us, we left Aiden at my mom’s because we didn’t want him to miss school. Actually I feel a bit guilty because we didn’t tell him that we were going away. So he doesn’t know, he thinks that he is just spending time at his grandparents’. Honestly I think he prefers it there anyway…his paradise where nobody says ‘NO’ to him. Mommy,if you are reading this, you know it’s true!

So anyway, we had a good long break,6 days to be exact. It was really a last minute thing. Greg got his roster and saw that he had a stretch of off days (because they can’t legally put him on flight anymore, his hours are too high) So we only decided to go the day before we took off on Thursday and came back on Tuesday. At least this time round it really felt like a holiday well…for me at least. We didn’t have to rush off to Disneyland…we didn’t plan what we were going to do but we just wanted to laze around and play it by ear. But of course Ah Yee (Greg’s aunt) the ever graceious host had our visas to Zuhai,China all prepared for everyday should we want to go on the spur of the moment. So, no taking chances there!! Hahaha! Weather is cold there, much colder then the last time we were there. The first night was sooo cold we all slept with the hot water bottle cradled in between our feet. It’s the most wonderful feeling!! Caitlyn was curled up like a ball, usually she sleeps like a starfish. Second night was a little better but the hot water bottled stayed… heheee!!

And this time round we finally had a meal at the famed Fernendos!! The last time we went 3 times but only made it to the doors. This place is so famous, people actually travel from Hong Kong and China to eat here. There is a que all day long from the time the restaurant is open at 11am till 10pm and… they don’t take reservations. You’ll have to go there put your name on the list and wait your turn. I’ll tell you all about Fernandos in another post. I’ll post it under my food blog.

When we came back I don’t think Aiden missed a beat at all…. if at all he really misses his sister. He called when we were in Macao and asked for his sister. Infact he wasn’t too happy when my brother sent him home on Wednesday. I had to coax him to bed. He actually thought that he had move to his grandparents’ coz that’s what he told his teacher. Sigh!! He is only 4 and he wants to leave home already. What am I going to do when he grows into his teens? So yesterday we (Greg and I) took him with us for John’s birthday dinner and left Caitlyn with my parents. Swap!! Hahaha! So that we can spend some time with him. I really missed him…all the funny things he says and all the conversations we have that doesn’t make any sense at all.. Like why does a doughnut have a hole in the middle. But it’s sooo cute.

On why I didn’t write while we were in Macao… Haha! To be honest I was just lazy and I was actually busy setting up my other blog in blogspot. Why do I have another blog? Well… I kinda gave up trying to load up my digital scrapbook layouts in this blog. I can’t seem to figure it out. There must be a way but I just can’t bother anymore. It’s so much easier in blogspot I swear to you! So, I figure out that it’s better this way anyway… I’ll post my writings…or ramblings and paper scrapbooking here and all my digital stuff there in blogspot. So please check it out at www.scrap-a-chick.blogspot.com or in future you can just click on the link on my blogroll that says “My other blog” There you’ll probable find all the layouts with the recent photos.

Why am I doing digital stuff?? Hehehe! To be honest..it’s just so much faster, not to mention cheaper!! Don’t worry, I’m not giving up paper scrapbooking…it’s just different. Digital is so much faster and convienient. I can do it anywhere I don’t have to carry all my stuff around. But that said…nothing beats the real thing right? And that’s not just for scrapbooking rite? hehehehe!

On the second day we just hung about in Macao. Ah Yee took us to visit the Ruins of St Paul’s,Plaza Senado and for some shopping. I think the only reason Greg even agreed to go out that day was the promise of some roasted pork and duck meal in town. Ah Yee and Uncle Jim calls it ‘rough and ready’ meal. Oh.. but it was really yum-yum.. We did it justice alright…and ordered seconds!

After lunch and my husband appeased..we went and did a little sight-seeing. Well, we must see the ruins..Everyone and anyone who has set foot on Macao visits the ruins..besides the casinos of course.I must say Macao may be small but it’s definitely very congested. There are flats everywhere and the it’s quite old fashioned in a way and you cannot miss the Portuguese influence. It’s everywhere..the buildings especially. But we didn’t last too long walking as we also had a whiny 4 year old with tired feet and sleepy eyes.. But I think he did very well. As Ah Yee has pointed out…he’ll probable have to take 2-3 steps for every 1 step of an adult. Have you ever thought about that?

We went home in the evening..after I’ve packed the kids off to bed, I helped Ah Yee to prepare dinner. The Leongs were coming over for some home cook meal. Ah Yee prepared some yummy pork belly,stir-fry beef with kailan, ‘wat-tan’ beef.
