So finally it’s over. After weeks of planning and preparations, I must say that it turned out well *phew!* I wanted to write this post last night but I was really just too tired as we also attended a wedding dinner after that and only came home at about 11pm.Now that all the glitter and wrapping paper has been swept away, I finally have the time to write this post. All went according to plan but of course in my life nothing will ever be ordinary…some drama must follow even if I planned it to the last minute detail ( which I did) This time, it was Aiden. Well, it wasn’t his fault really…he is a victim (poor fellow) You’ll read about it in my next post. Aunty Bernie and Aunty Cerena also didn’t make it at the very last minute as they fell ill. Grandma (Greg’s mom) also could make as she couldn’t get time off from her class. So the party…All of Caitlyn’s favorite people and those who loves here was there. That alone marked the occasion for me. We had in The Apartment at The Curve. Thanks to Uncle Kenny who happens to be the manager there made everything perfect and saved me a lot of stress from planning the menu. I didn’t have to worry or check on anything all was left to him. I wouldn’t say that the place looked anything like a a child’s 1 year old party, in fact it looked more like a hen night with the dark walls and pink balloons. ( like a Victoria’s Secret party) and Kylie was about to jump out to do a number or something. We even had sexy jazzy music! Very classy actually… I liike *wink* As it was a tea party we had finger food like scones and canapes, peanut butter and banana crepes…Big Apple doughnuts, courtesy of Uncle Paul *thanks* That was a hit with everyone. Godma (Elaine Daly) can’t stop stuffing her face!! And who said that models don’t eat!!The birthday cake was from Piece of Cake baked by Lilian. I’ll recommend it to anyone, not only was it a lovely cake it tastes good too. I was very happy with the cake and so was Caitlyn. She squealed with delight when she saw the cake and the balloons when she arrived. That was priceless for me. All the hard work of planning and running about paid off to get my Princess’s approval. She really had a blast that day…being the enter of attention, kissed and carried by everyone. Of course, her two favorite men in the world,(besides Daddy la..) Uncle Paul and my Path Finder friend, Jeff showered her with lots of love too… Cuddles from her lovely (soon to be married) Godma, Elaine Daly. Everytime I write about her, I must include her full name (which feels really weird) or people will get confused with me. I sometimes get sms meant for her sent to me (!?)The only biggest regret that I have was that Daddy and Tai Kor (big brother) Aiden was only able to show up at the very last moment of the party. And even that also, we held up our guest for the cake cutting to wait for them to come from the hospital. I feel so sad that Daddy and Aiden missed her first birthday party. And they were both so excited about it.Well… the treat boxes? Oh yeah… everyone loved it (yeah!!) All hard work paid off…no more painful fingers! (hehehe) Will I do it again? I don’t know…it’s just so much work and patience. What kept me going was the thought of making it perfect and memorable for Caitlyn and our guest. Some people even ask me if I’m selling it or thought about doing as a business…*phew!) It’s just so much work, how much would I charge? And I think 45 pcs is as much as I can handle! But like I said…I don’t know. We’ll see. *wink*And another thing that I realized after the party was that I don’t really have nice shots of the day. Well…after looking at the ones that my brother took is quite disappointing…not what I expected. Sigh! That’s another thing about being a host, you can’t really go round with your camera and entertain your guest at the same time. I’ve learn this lesson one too many times but still stupid enough to repeat it. I’ve actually asked a few people to help me but the two reliable ones couldn’t make it and that’s left my youngest brother who is actually a photographer (yes…he does it for a living) but not the most reliable person to do the job especially for family.. (how’s that?) But I did notice my fellow blogger Jazzmint who happens to has great eye for catching special moments (check out her blog…lovely!!) was kind enough to bring her camera and was clicking away that day… Hmmm… looks like I’ll be buying her lunch/dinner soon. Hehehehe! So, please wait up for the photos.
So finally, all the preparation is done. The most trying part was making the treat boxes… but that’s done too! I love it!! I hope Caitlyn’s guest loves it too.. Even Daddy helped me to cut out the boxes till very very late at night sacrificing his tv time. So that’s big deal ok!! And grandma helped a bit as well…but I think it was too much for her to be bossed around by moi. Plus, she is never very keen on all the arty farty stuff. I still remember when I told her that I wanted to go to an art school after secondary school..the ‘look’ she gave me was worst then when I told her that I was preggars. And she asked me, “And what are you going to do when you come out? Cannot find any job lah… You’ll starve to death!” So you see, I’m more likely to get preggars then to any chance to go to art collage. That’s how I ended up working as a make-up artist (? no, that has nothing what so ever to do with art of course) then a trolley dolly for the next 8 years of my life.
So anyway, she help cut out a few boxes too, I think that’s as much as she can take.
Everything is done, I’m ready… Let’s party!!! *Geez…I’m more excited then my own party. Sorry la huh…I just love planning parties!!*
Hello!! Sorry, I haven’t been writing for awhile. I’ve been busy preparing for Caitlyn’s birthday party, confirming everything and mostly making treat boxes! Sigh! I didn’t think it’ll be so much work!! But it’s all worth it. You’ll see. The boxes looks great! *a bit perasan also la* But I’m really happy how it’s turning out. I hope our guest will appreciate and keep the boxes, for awhile atleast. *ahem! hint! hint!* Testing my PS (Photoshop) skills and not to mention my creative skills. Since I’m no pro at PS, it actually took me quite a while to get it right.
So far I’ve confirmed the venue, finalized the menu, sent out invitations, checked out the balloons and deco for the place. And I thought we’ll have a simple one with family since this year I don’t have a maid and Greg has been busy as well. He is actually having his base check this month so he won’t really have time to help me. He is even flying on that day itself so… that’s why we wanted to have it somewhere that we don’t have to put up tents and clean up after that! Plus, we have a wedding dinner to attend that night too. So we want something simple, besides, I don’t think the birthday girl will last too long anyway. But to not give a party for her first birthday will be equivalent to criminal offence. We (Greg and I) will be answering questions for the rest of our lives and probably till we are lying in our coffins.
My Dad was just telling me how important it is to celebrate first birthdays as in the olden days in China (it always is…just like once upon a time thingy) most babies don’t make it through their first year, so to be able to celebrate first birthday is a BIG occassion… I think it’s just an excuse to EAT!!! Very Chinese thing to do you know…
Speaking of balloons, does anyone know where I can get a good deal? So far I’ve checked out the one in Bangsar, Party Balloons, they are the only one that will come and do the set up if we order more then 70 pcs. And that’s gonna cost RM218! The rest will not do set up…so if I get from them, I’ll have to out them up myself. Well…I guess I’ll just have to get the Godpa to help me. *hehehe!* I’m still contemplating on getting a pinata, it’s expensive and we really don’t have that many children, only all aunties, uncles and grandparents.
The cake, we’ll be getting from Piece of cake. I heard only praises from people who have ordered from her (Lilian) I’ve seen picture on the internet, and they look really cute! Check it out for yourself.
So that’s that… I have to get back to my boxes…(sorry)
