So we are back from our holiday, or rather what I’ll like to call it our amazing race across 3 countries… (Coz it feels like it) Greg and I finally decided to just do it (taking the whole family for our first overseas trip) Like I mentioned in my previous blog, we will be taking Aiden to Disneyland. So we took a flight to Macau and met up with Ah Yee KK and Uncle Jim (as promised also *wink*)Then a boat to Hong Kong Disneyland and our impromptu visit to China, Zuhai. It’s not the first time we are travelling, but just the thought of taking the two kids on flight, boat, train and to Disneyland is scary. I actually thought of not taking Caitlyn along two days before the trip. All sorts of what ifs and questions pop into my head. The biggest question was will it be too stressful for the her since she is only about 8 months old. But I thought it’ll be really unfair to take one and not the other. Plus Caitlyn is pretty attached to me and being away from her for 5 whole days will be even more stressful for her and prob for me too…I’ll miss her:( What appeased me was that we will be staying in Ah Yee’s house. So it can’t be that bad and I’ll have Ah Yee (God Bless her) if anything at all…If we had to stay in a hotel for the whole of our journey,I would have turned back!

So, any mommies out there thinking of whether to bring little bubs on trips like this.. Well..my advice is you can but don’t expect or plan to have too many activities..you’ll be moving really slow (stopping for toilets/feeds/tired lil’ feet/grumbling stomach…etc) And if you are going with the kids.. it’s basically a holiday for them not you. Meaning, you’ll be doing all the kiddie stuff so don’t look forward to go shopping for a long time(they will be whinny due to boredom) no checking out the local bars/pub/clubs (no one to babysit) no travelling light (you’ll have to bring half the house)… But it’s not like you won’t have fun, but you’ll be doing the things that the kiddies will enjoy. And that’s what really matters anyway. Seeing the smiles on their faces makes it all worth it! And just having that time alone with the family having fun is also worth it. I’ll do it again, this time round I’m wiser and clued in.. so it’ll be easier and I can be more relax to enjoy. Well….mommies are still learning and experimenting all the time right?

Our flight departs at 9.25am from LCCT terminal. Which means we’ll have to be at the airport at about 8am…which means we’ll have to leave the house at 7am. So we’ll have to wake Aiden up at about 6.15am! Luckily it wasn’t too difficult as he was really excited about the trip. Caitlyn was changed into her travelling garb and went straight back to sleep. After loading up our trusty Honda City we were on our way to our adventure….No looking back now. There wasn’t too many people at the airport *phew* We only found out that we had to get some kind of permit for Caitlyn as she doesn’t travel on a ticket but we have to register her or something like that.

We paid for our Express Boarding (YESS!! You read it right, PAID. AirAsia crew, even Captain do not get priority boarding) And even then we still have to make a dash for it.It’s not easy when you have 2 kids and baby bags. The flight was ok. It’s not their first time but both of them was still very excited, especially Aiden. Mommy and Daddy was thinking and hoping that he will eventually nod off during flight so that we can catch some shut eye as well but he didn’t sleep a wink at all.. ( Daddy let him watch Cars on the PSP but he soon got bored of that too. When we were about to land in Macau he was ready to knock out. But all the activity getting down the plane and going through Immigration kept him awake. He was really at his best behavior…Just as well, because his Daddy told him that we (mommy and daddy) will be giving a report to Mickey Mouse to say if he has been a good boy so that he will be allowed into Disneyland. Ah Yee suddenly became the good behavior angel to tell on him.

Ah Yee’s apartment is very close to the airport, and it’s very cosy with a lovely view of the sea and planes coming in to land. Their ‘apartment’ is 2 stories with a master bedroom (walk-in closet and bathroom attached),2 guestrooms (both with it’s own bathrooms,a study/computer room, rooftop garden, kitchen with an island console, living room and dining room, laundry area,oh, and a 2nd living room upstairs as well. So I wouldn’t call it an apartment actually. The weather was lovely as well…about 19 degrees. Not cold, feels like you are in an air-cond room. It’s perfect weather for sleeping…and that’s what Caitlyn did all the time.On the first night we had dinner at a restaurant named Nga Tim. It’s Ah Yee and Uncle Jim’s family restaurant in the village near their apartment. We had this special dish aptly named sauna prawns. How it’s ‘cooked’ (if you consider it cooking at all), the prawns came in a Pyrex bowl, then rice wine is pored into the Pyrex and it’s left for about 5 mins. Then the cooking bit comes in.. the prawns are then poured into a dish filled with hot stones, cover it for about half a minute then voila…it’s served. The way to eat it is just peel the shell and dipped in a little special soy sauce with some chili in it. It’s bit cruel actually but I must say it’s really yummy. Aiden love, love, loves it…I’ve never seen him eat so many prawns in one sitting. A mat salleh woman who sat a table away looked at us with disapproving eyes…I wonder where does her meat and the fish she was eating come from..maybe they all grow on trees or chemically generated from a lab some where and there’s no killing involve. Anyway the rest of the dishes were yum-yum as well. After that we went and paid homage to the great Venetian Casino. It’s really grand and at the moment it’s just quarter of it’s intended size. There’s lots of shops inside, everything or rather every brand you can think of it’s there. It’s just pure opulence everywhere you look. After that we all went home to retire..just as well coz I was about to drop dead! What a day!
