Bento for the day

Aiden's Octopus (hantu) bento

Cait's Octopus Bento

For some reason.. It has been a very tiring day for me. I feel like I have not stopped since I woke up this morning and now I’m feeling like I’m gonna be sick. Thats why today’s bento also very ‘kalam kabut’. Thought I’ll make something different for them today, so I cooked some cabonara with tri-color pasta. I didn’t actually planned the ‘octopus’ it just kinda pop into my head as I have seen it in some bentos (I just don’t remember who’s) As you all know that I have not received my punchers yet, so I got creative and used my paper puncher (from my scrapbooking stash) for the mouth, and black sesame seeds for the eyes. Unfortunately… when I asked Aiden what it looks like, he said ‘Like a ghost.” Sigh! Hokay…. ya, ya.. I know. Need more practice Mommy! What do you all think? I know it’s not perfect, but honestly… look like a hantu meh? :-|

Lol!! More reason to ‘invest’ in some more bento tools… ;-)

Ultra Cool Daddy left for Perth (again) tonight. He very ‘manja’ now… Also wants his bento for work.. As he hardly eats meat now, so his bentos are quite easy to put together. He likes his salads and raw stuff. *insert roll eyes here* SoI really don’t mind fixing him something to go. Not like Air Asia feed their crew well.. Yes, they do get a crew meal but apparently it’s really pathetic, furthermore, it’s not up to Ultra Cool Daddy’s standards… No salads and fresh fruit. o this is what he brought to work today. The photo is really bad, and honestly didn’t do justice to my bento.. *blush* I was rushing to send him and get the kids some dinner. So I just simply took a snap of it but here it is…

Tuna Onigiri Bento

It’s tuna onigiri, prawn and avocado salad, edamame and dragon fruit. I hope he likes it.

Ham and Cheese Bento

Ham and cheese sandwich bento

This is what I made for Cait this afternoon for lunch. I sneaked some veg in the sandwich, hoping that she wouldn’t notice it but my mission failed. :-( She tasted it and spat everything out! Panicked that she would give up on everything I quickly removed the rest… :-|

Apart from that, she loved it! :-D I must find some other ways for her to eat those veggies… Afterall, that was kinda why I thought of making bentos for them.

I’ve ordered some punchers to make those eyes and noses from Arlene. You can check out her blog for more details. And I’ve also bought some other stuff too.. I’m dying to get my hands on them soon!!!

My Very First Bento (well sorta)

Aiden's First Bento

This is the bento that I made for Aiden and Caitlyn yesterday for lunch. The officially first one went to Greg day before yesterday, he took it for his Perth flight. I didn’t have time to take photo of it as we were rushing out. That one I sorta put everything together in half an hour so I think it was kinda a mess actually. I hope his co-pilot didn’t laugh at him. :-| That’s why I declare that these 2 that I made for the kids are the ’sorta’ the first ones. *keke*

I have been surfing the net at other Mommies making bento sets for their kids and was very inspired by them. I really have to take my hats off to Shopping Mom for her bentos! Trust me.. it really makes mine look so shabby. But I’m trying! I have been toying with the idea to start for some time now and finally was bitten by the ‘bento bug’. Day before yesterday I went to Daiso at Curve and bought a whole lot of bento making gadgets. And I have been searching the net for online stores selling these things and boy am I tempted to buy everything!

So anyway… how did the kids like their bentos? Well, I’m proud t say that my very humble attempt was very well received by the both of them. :-) I guess they just don’t have anything to compare it to… But I promise to get better lah!

Aiden and his first Bento

Cait went straight for the rabbit shaped rice balls

I’m currently waiting for my other gadgets to arrive so that I can give my little rice ‘animals’ some eyes, nose and ears. And I’m still looking for cute lunch boxes too.

Before started this craze, I told Greg that I want to take up a new hobby… *keke* I must say my husband is very good these days. In the past I have taken up so many new different hobbies (trust me it’s alot) and he has always been ‘quite’ supportive. And out of all those times he will sometimes ask me “Can make money ah? So when are all these hobbies of yours gonna make us some money instead of spending more?” I did get kinda offended some times. But it is true, I do spend quite a bit on my hobbies… :-P But I think he knows that I really love all these kinda stuff. So this time when I announced to him that I wanna take up a new hobby… he was very, very smart to keep a VERY straight face and calmly asked me what it was this time. When I told him what it was he still had that very straight face plastered on (must be due to years of practice) and said a very neutral “Ok… Must go for class ah?” LOL!! I was quite surprise he actually asked that question… I asked him why did he ask such a question? His reply.. “Must take out money again lor….”

:-|

But all that said… I don’t think Ultra Cool Daddy will be complaining… He was very happy with his bento. :-)
