For those of you who have been following my blog will know that I’ve been to this lovely island more then once. 3 times to be exact and out of those 3 times twice is in within 2 months this year. And usually I only sing praises of this beautiful island but not this time… Don’t be mistaken, the island is still lovely as ever, it’s just that something really terrible happened this time and I came back with a big fat bruise as a reminder of the terrible incident. :-( I was actually contemplating if I should blog about this for a few days now…  Why? Well maybe after I’ve told you what happened then you’ll figure out why.

So I was there last week with ‘the gurls’ to celebrate my friend’s birthday and also we wanted to make it a yearly trip to this island. All was well and good we had a wonderful time there until the last night we were there. My friends were on the beach quite far away from the Le Club main restaurant/bar. I went to join them later leaving Greg in our room in Safaris as he was still taking a nap. After I joined the group, I noticed that they were running out of drinks and I wanted to go get Greg as well.. So my friend went with me as he didn’t want to let me walk alone back to the room. As we were walking back to my room, someone from the restaurant shouted at us. Actually he shouted something really rude to my friend but I wanted to make sure… So I walked towards the restaurant to find out what and why was he shouting at us. He came right out and continue shouting at us and he was very rude and clearly was high on something. A few people came running out after him, 2 of the people I know works at Le Club. The cut the whole story short, there was a lot of shouting and he was getting very, very rude. Saying that he owns the island and he is some royalty and that he can and will throw us out of the island that night itself! I was very mad… My point is, I’m a paying customer and have just as much right to be on the island and what have we done wrong that he has the right to throw us out? That was when he pushed and then kicked me on my right thigh and I fell on the beach. Everybody started shouting then and tried to restrained him, I got very angry then. I got up and demanded for an apology but he only got more crazy. That was when my friend said to me that there no point and we should go as he is really getting aggressive and was very high. Then the staff there at Le Club was apologizing profusely saying that he has had a lot to drink and pleaded for us to forget about the whole incident. As we were turning to leave that fellow gave us another push and this time my friend and I both fell as he was hugging me to protect me from that crazy guy after that first push and kick from him. Then more people was trying to hold him down and that was when got back to Safaris. After that I got greg to get all our friends back from the beach. And even our friend who were suppose to stay at the chalet at Le Club did not stay there that night. It was too dangerous.

The next day we went to settle our bill there… Yup, we still had to pay the full price after what happened and the fact that we didn’t even stay there the second night! Technically we were thrown out of that place. But they charged us! Amazing!! There was no apology, nothing…

Of course when we arrived in Mersing, we went to make a police report and we found out that this is not the first time something like this has happened on the island and the culprit involve is HIM. And we also found out many other things about him (but I cannot say it here).

So what happened from then? The manager from the resort we were staying in (Safaris), who is owned by that fella’s uncle, arranged for an interview with a Malay newspaper. I did give them my story and they even took some photos of my very bruised thigh but until now nothing… I guess there’s a lot of red tape when it involves any of our royalties. So maybe they are not in liberty to report? I don’t know.. Even the police have not done anything apparently (according to the Safaris Resort’s manager) So I really don’t know what to do now. I don’t want any compensation but I do want some justice. So is this the fate of us Malaysians? When it comes to royalties we are nothing? Because that’s clearly what this guy thinks… that he really can just do anything and get away with it.

So since I cannot do anything about it… I thought I’ll just have to at least warn my friends and family or whoever that reads my blog about this place. And that’s why I was thinking a few days if I should or shouldn’t blog about this? Many have told me not to… saying that I wouldn’t want to mess with these people.. But really… in this time and day in Malaysia?

But I would end this and still say… that it IS a really beautiful place to go… I still love the island and I will return but I’ll surely be staying in the safety of Safaris Resort, and I’ll never ever step foot in Le Club. It’s just such a pity that such a lovely place is spoiled by some crazy person.

Anyway, here is a link and a update to the case you can read about how this guy gatecrashed a couple’s wedding some time ago… Apparently this is also just one of the many, many incidences.

Last week Greg and I were invited to Koh Samui, Thailand for an anniversary party of two of or very good friends. They have been together for 5 years. Every year they will celebrate their anniversary and it is usually no small event. When it is almost time for their anniversary the rest of us will be guessing what will they come up with this year, and trust me every year will be more ott then the last! :-D It’s like they are trying to outdo themselves…. not that we are complaining tho… They are just really fun and they just love to entertain. And we, just happen to be SO, SO lucky. AND this year we are just SUPER DUPER lucky I must say…. All we got was an invitation card that we are invited to celebrate their 5th anniversary. A list of things that we need to pack and our passport with a 6 months validity period. Venue is a secret! That really sent us all guessing and all excited!! :-) Some of us guessed it right, most of us only found out when we arrived at the airport.

I must really salute them for all the time spent organizing the whole trip for all 34 ‘queens’ and 2 straight men from almost 5 countries!! Not to mention money spent!! It must have cost a BOMB! To organize a dinner party is already A LOT of work… what more to get all 36 people to an island…. You have my utmost R.E.S.P.E.C.T sista!!

So.. we all departed from Subang airport, flying Firefly to Koh Samui. And true to their style, everything was well thought of to perfection from the time that we arrived till we left the island. We stayed at Bhundhari Resort near Chaweng beach. It is a lovely resort, the signature color is pink! See… I love it already! Just perfect for a bunch of sistas!! Visit the site, you’ll see what I mean. All together our group took up 14 villas/rooms and the Presidential Suite, where all the partying will be!

On the first night we had a lovely buffet dinner by the beach and followed by some dance performance and fire dancers on the beach!! It was really a special time we had catching up with our friends who live in other countries and cities. After the fire dancers were done, the happy couple lighted up their ‘heart’ on the beach… It was just so lovely… and romantic.

Fire Heart

Just as we thought the entertainment for the night was over and we were so ready to adjourn to the Presidential Suite to party the night away… that we were told that there was one last surprise for us…

They arranged for all of us to set free a Hung Meng Deng (sky lantern). The host from the hotel explained to us what is a Hung Meng deng. You can read about it in detail here. It is said that when you make a wish and set free one of this sky lanterns, your wish will come true. What a truly meaningful way to celebrate this very special night. It was just SO beautiful to see all the lanterns floating up into the sky carrying all our wishes and hope to the heavens above. Sigh!! And sharing this experience with so many of my closest friends made it even more special for me.

Thank you F & M… It was really so thoughtful and special.

After that very ‘feeling-feeling’ moment, all of us finally went up to the suite to PARTY!!! After that, all was a blur to me… :-D We really let our hair down and really had too much fun (as if there’s such a thing!) LOL!!

Here are the pics!

Bangkok

Last week Greg and I went to Bangkok for 3 days and 2 nights. We stayed at Amari Watergate in Pratunam area. We didn’t take the kids with us as we were planning to do alot of walking around and we really didn’t think taking them will be the best thing. It was also  Greg’s first time to Bangkok. I actually had a list of thing that I really wanted to do while we were there… Like going to the floating market (which I’ve never been!) and lots of shopping!

But in the end we didn’t get to go to the floating market as the ones that was close to town is only open on weekends and the original floating market which is open daily is like 2 hours drive away from town! Too far.. :-( So in the end we just hung around town and we went to visit the Grand palace, Wat Pho and Wat Arun. Wat (temple in Thai) Pho is where the giant sleeping Buddha is and Wat Arun is suppose to be one of the oldest temples… On the first night, we also went to the Suan Lum night bazaar.

I actually felt a bit lost this trip as I’m not armed with my Lonely Planet guide book! Back in my trolley dolly days I’ll always bring along my guide book whenever I’m in a new country and I plan to go sight seeing. But this time round because we left in such a short notice and it wasn’t planned at all I didn’t get one. Sigh! Which reminds me that I need to go and buy one as I will be going back!

While we were there I also met Kate, Greg’s friend whom he met at some company team building thing… She’s such a sweet girl… The next time we go back to Bangkok she promised that she’ll take us around and eat some good Thai food.. hehehe! ;-) I can’t wait cause this time round also… we didn’t eat very well as we just cannot read Thai. So all we ate were some noodles from the road side (which we found by chance) and in the food court where there’s menu in English.

All in all.. it was an ok trip. But I love Bangkok…. shopping is great!! I’ll surely be back.. soon! :-D
