The 3 Of You...

This was yesterday…

I was getting him ready for his van yesterday when I noticed that he wasn’t going to bring his badminton racket to school like all the other days the week before. He has been really keen on badminton ever since he started school. And what gets him going and motivates him to wake up at 4.40 am for his van so that he can have a game with the other kids in the morning.

So I asked him… “Aren’t you bringing your racket?”

And he shook his head and looked rather down.. So I asked him why not? He didn’t answer me and walked away.. I knew there was something.. Something is wrong..

So when we were waiting outside, I probed further, trying to get it out of him…

And finally he spilled it out. He said the other kids wouldn’t let him play… :-(  And I asked him why? He says he doesn’t know. So I asked him which other kids? His classmates or who? Who are they? At this point I was crushed and was feeling mixed emotions of anger and heartache for my son (or was it just me..? I’m not sure) And so, he said it’s the older kids, like Std 5 and 6… And he ended the conversation with, “They just don’t want to play with me lah…” and shook his head very sad.. My heart went out for him… At that point I wanted to drive him to school and confront those mean kids.. but… I told myself, It’s a lesson he has to learn and had better learn it sooner then later… The lesson of rejection. It’s tough for me to watch but I’m sure it’s tough for him as well..

And I’m heartbroken..

So I said to him, why don’t you just play with the kids your age? Maybe that’s better? But he didn’t say anything and the van arrived…

But today, I noticed he brought his racket again… But I didn’t make ay comments ;-) I guess he has gotten over it maybe?

Happy Birthday Aiden

Happy Birthday Aiden!!

Aiden turned 7 last week on the 2nd. We had a small party at home that day, I made some Sponge Bob cupcakes, roasted a chicken and made some pizzas to celebrate. But Greg was not back yet from his 10 days trip turned 3 weeks trip :-| . So we only had his (what he calls) ‘real’ party last Sunday at our new place by the pool. Was gonna make this football game cake myself but my mixer was kaput so had to order it from our usual bakery… :-( But it turned out well. :-) Kinda like what I had in mind…

The Cake

We invited all the usual suspects… the Voos, Erica and the 2 kiddos, Hooi Min’s brood, Chee Yong, Raz and Zara. We had fun by the pool, even though I think it’s the most simple party I’ve ever had. Ordered some durian cream puffs, buns and drinks. The weather was ok.. was drizzling the whole time but it stayed that way the whole evening. The kids still enjoyed the pool, that was the most important thing!

Let's swim!!

All in all.. It was a great party. The kids loves the pool… that was one of the main reasons we bought this new place… we knew that the kids will have a great place to explore and have fun while the ‘older’ kids have a place to relax in a resort like environment without actually going away or having to drive too far…

We are looking forward to host many more of these gatherings when we have actually moved in. ;-)
