Last Sunday was Caitlyn’s birthday! She is officially 2 years old now. For quite some time now everybody (mainly strangers) would think that she is more than 2 years old or older. Well, she is quite tall and big for her age.
We had a picnic to celebrate her birthday. I thought we’ll have something different this year, instead of the usual Mc Donald’s or Kid’s Sports party. I knew that it’ll be more work but I thought it’s good to get the kids (and parents) outdoors for a bit.
I was kinda prepared for all the work.. but getting everything ready really had me all pooped out!! I was also very determined to to make her birthday cake, and I wanted to make something that she’ll remember. So, I made the cake that she was all excited about when we were surfing the Wilton‘s site. I even had to make a test run cake just to make sure I had the recipe just right and the to learn how to ensemble the 2 tier cake. I’ve never made one before… It didn’t really ended up looking exactly like the one we saw but close..
I hope she liked it.
Preparations actually started almost a week before the party. Like the cake, goodie bags had to be made way ahead of time. The it was shopping for all the food and making sure everyone knew which park and all. Even the menu changed a few times!
On the day of the picnic, everyone was ready to help. Even Godpa Albert who is a late riser and is usually the last to arrive anywhere.. and.. was out drowning his sorrows because his team Liverpool didn’t win again… was at out doorstep at 730am SHARP to help out! Po Po also arrived very early to prepare the food while Kung Kung, Uncle Jeff, Uncle Howard was at the park getting the party site ready. Everything fell into place. Our guest all arrive on time and all had a good time! The kids were all busy catching fishes in the stream except for Zara, who’ll rather collect rocks..
Just like any kids party, we plays games too. I actually had 5 games planned but due to shortage of balloons (they just wouldn’t stop popping!! Must be the heat) we only got to play 3 of the games but I guess it was just as well… Everyone was SO hilarious, especially the corn eating contest!! Actually I think the parents enjoyed the games more then the kiddos.. LOL!!
I thought it all went really well and it didn’t rain. I was SO, SO worried about that since it’s been pissing rain everyday for the pass week! That’s also why instead of having the party in the evening, we had it in the morning.
Here are some photos from the picnic.

Someday, 10 years from now, when the kids are tech/internet-savvy (if they’re not already), Caitlyn will look at these entries and know how much love was put into making this event a success. The phrase ‘labour of love’ wasnt coined fer nuthin’
Kudos, Elaine
