Last night, for I don’t know what reason my son decided that he wanted to wear his Korean costume ( the one from his concert last year) to bed. No, we didn’t eat anything Korean for a long time and no…I don’t think we watched anything Korean either. Infact we had Japanese for lunch instead. So I don’t know what brought this on, but it’s quite cute really. Greg and I went out for dinner with our *Keke* Japanese friend, Tomi (yes…we had Japanese) and when we came home we found Aiden clad in his costume jumping around on his bed and homework not done! Sigh!! My mom came over to babysit…so I don’t know what they did the whole night…his homework not done. So he had to finish his homework at 11pm! No good.

That afternoon when I picked him up from school, he was shooting at everyone in sight.Sigh! I don’t know what to do or how am I gonna stop this. This is something that you won’t read in a book or a magazine how how to handle awkward situation like that. So I tried talking to him again… I asked him why does he do that? His answer was “I will shoot and kill all this people!” *pengsan* The thing that surprises me is he actually said that because Daddy taught him violent things and Jiu-Jiu (my youngest brother) taught him about guns. Now… about my brother..I really don’t know, maybe, because my brother does love his toy guns, but Greg…I really don’t think so. He is the most anal about things like that! So I asked him why did he say that about Daddy? His reply was because he (Daddy) took him to watch Transformers. *slap own face!* Yes, we did… and it is one of the things that both Greg and I regret like hell!!

But I’m thinking here… what are we parents to do? How much can we shield our children from all these things? And for how long? Is it better to shield them or to let them know that these things are happening in the world we live in or could happen in future so we must do XYZ to prevent it? You know…educate them. Greg and I believe in raising our children based on truth, facts and reason. We don’t even use a cane, we don’t have one. But maybe Aiden is too young for that? What do you parents think? I want to hear some opinions. Coz I’m really lost.

So, about Transformers… Yes, it was our regret that Aiden watched it. I suggested it to Greg that he should have a boys movie together because I saw that it was a U rating on the movie. So I didn’t think that it wold be that bad (that’s Malaysian’s ratings for you!) Plus, when they bought the tickets the ticketing attendant sold them the ticket… But after the movie, when I was meeting up with the both of them, Greg was stood there rooted to the ground emotionless and Aiden was shooting everyone in Mid Valley. Greg was not impress at all but until today I’m still wondering why Daddy didn’t come out of the cinema after realizing that the movie is not suitable for young master Aiden? So anyway… Aiden had a crash course about violence in the period of one movie. Impressive! If only he learns other thing so fast!.

This happened in Macao one afternoon enjoying our rather unhealthy lunch ‘ta pau’ (take away) from our favorite ‘chu pa bao’ (pork chop buns) stall on the beach in AhYee’s kitchen. While we were stuffing our mouth, Caitlyn wanted some too. My first reaction was ‘NO’. But Ah Yee said … “It’s Ok. Let her have a wing.” Then Ah Yee added…” Hey! Your brother had his first pork rib when he was only 6 months old!” Hmmm…That’s true. So we gave her a part of the wing…She loved it!! And she wanted some more after the first, and she cleaned out the bone quite well too. And Ah Yee said ” Of course…it has MSG! Anything would be yummy!”

The second time she had MSG was in Zuhai,China. We were out shopping all day. I didn’t expect that we’ll be out all day, so I only brought 1 portion of her porridge with me. So we had to feed her porridge from one of the restaurants there…yes…It was yummy. Even daddy thinks it’s yummy…

Sigh!! I’m becoming a bad mom. When Aiden was a baby, I use to be so anal about these things. Aiden didn’t eat outside food till he was more than 2 years or so. And he had never tasted instant noodles till Caitlyn came along, which make him 4 years old. My confinement lady gave it to him. He loved it and asked me why he has never ate this before?*scratch head*

Now…with Caitlyn I’m so relaxed with all these things. One clear example, Caitlyn is still sleeping on the same bed as us. Aiden was sleeping on his own from the time we brought him home from the hospital. We were afraid about sudden cot death amd a whole lot of stuff that I read about. Everything I read from my baby books was like gospel to me. Good or bad? I dunno? I guess I’m just not so ‘kan cheong’ anymore la.I guess deep down I know *cross fingers* that Caitlyn will be the last… and we really give in to her alot. Many times I find myself thinking…”Aiya! Nevermind la, I’ll never get to do this again.” That’s my excuse. I don’t know what Greg tells himself to feel ok…Hahaha!

So anyway… Ah Yee is THE ONE who gave my son his first taste of pork rib ‘Pai kuat wong’, and my daughter her first BBQ chicken wing.

Sigh!! Just like my friend Jazzmint,I too have so many post dated stuff to catch up on… This one is waaaay past overdue actually. It’s just that everytime I sit down to write I’ll get distracted by something else and I’m caught adding some ‘things’ to my blog or skyping my pals..or downloading things from the freebies sites.Heehee! Ok,before I go on rambling about something els, I better get back on the topic of Winter Solstice. So actually it passed quite sometime ago…on the Gregorian calender this year it was actually on the 22th of January. (Hee! Hee!) I told you it was waaay overdue. But not every year it’s on the 22nd, it’s according to the Chinese Lunar calender.

Anyway, Dong Zhi actually means that on this day the sunshine will decline. Many people thinks that it means ‘winter has arrived’ but there is a difference. In the northern hemisphere, the day is the shortest and on the southern hemisphere it is the reversed. Traditionally during this day the Chinese visit each other and family members gather for a meal (Yes..the Chinese is all about eating!!) Some businesses even take a break on this day and it’s just like Chinese New Year. The reason behind this is because in China winter was very cold and back then many people die during winter months due to the lack of medical science and knowledge. So family members will gather on this day to have a reunion dinner and eat ‘tong yuen’ as a mark of family unity and harmony. There’ also this thing that my granny told me that you should eat the same amount of ‘tong yuen’ as your age. So if you are 23 then you eat 23 ‘biji’ (round pieces)…

‘Tong yuen’ is actually just tapioca flour mixed with water to make a dough, then a little food colouring is added. Usually it’s red (the Chinese love their reds) and green and white. Then it’s rolled into a ball with a small piece of sugarcane sugar inside, some peolple put grind peanuts or someother filling in it.Then it is boiled in hot water till it floats, which means it’s cooked. In another pot we have the water boilled with rock sugar and a small piece of ginger and it is served with the ball-balls, ‘tong yuen’ inside.
